King Rama I the Great Memorial
Built in 1932 to commemorate the first king in the Royal House of Chakri and founder of Bangkok as the Capital of the Kingdom of Siam. Open daily at the foot of Pathom Boromrachanuson or Rama I Great Memorial Bridge on the Bangkok side.

King Rama III Memorial
Built by the Fine Arts Department in 1990, the bronze statue, half larger than life size, is seated on a throne and surrounded by beautiful plants. Open daily near the Royal Reception Pavilion in front of Wat Ratchanatdaram on Ratchadamnoen Road.

Monument to the Expeditionary Force
Monument to the Thai Expeditionary Force that fought in the European battlefield during World War One. The ashes of dead veterans were enshrined here in 1919. Open daily in northern corner of Sanam Luang.

Sao Ching-Cha
The Giant Swing, formerly used during Brahman festivals to honour the Hindu God Shiva. Participants would swing in arcs to reach a bag of gold. Many died trying and the ritual was stopped in the 1930s. On Ti Thong Road in Banglamphu.

The City Pillar Shrine
Erected by King Rama I in 1782, the original pillar was made of cassia wood, but was replaced when dilapidated by King Rama IV. It houses the city's horoscope and images of protective deities. Open daily near the Emerald Buddha Temple.

The Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which adjoins the Grand Palace on common ground consecrated in 1782. The Emerald Buddha is actually carved out of of a type of jade, and placed on a pedestal high above worshippers. Open daily 08:30-15:30.
