Voting in the Australian Federal Elections

The absentee ballot: How to register and make your vote from overseas in the Australian Federal Election.

An Australian citizen living in Thailand may register as an overseas elector and vote in Australian national elections.

  • Enrolled address can be confirmed (and other election-related information is available) at the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) 
  • General enquiries on voting and enrolling to vote can be e-mailed to the AEC: e-mail 
Registering as an Overseas Voter

An Australian enrolled and registered as a voter in Australia may register as an overseas elector if they have been out of the country no more than three years and intend to return within six years.
