Am I the only one but do Bangkok street addresses make no sense? I'm always getting lost and taxi drivers don't seem much better!

Can anyone help me before I go mad!!!

Addresses are not easy but once you get the hang of it they sort of make sense!

As for taxi drivers, show me any city in the world where the taxis always know where they're going! Apart from London which has the best Taxis and probably the most expensive!

I suggest that before you go anywhere you're not sure how get to, look at the companies website. They often have a map and even an address in Thai. Print it out and give it to the taxi driver but remember if the address is not in English script they may well not understand the street address. If your destination is near a BTS or Metro station use the name of the station.

I don't understand why on Sukhumvit the soi numbers don't seem to correspond on either side of the street. You can have Soi 16 on one side and 33 on the other? Steve

On the North side of Sukhumvit all the sois are odd and on the South side they are all even. They start at Soi 1 (North Side) and Soi 2 (South side)from close to Nana BTS and increase in numerical order the further you go East. As the sois are spaced unevenly either side of Sukhumvit you can get Soi 16 on one side and 33 on the other.
