Getting into good unversities overseas

Jacobson writes in Families & Kids

My son goes to an average international school here in Bangkok, he's only 12 and very bright for his age. The teachers at his school say that he has just as much opportunity to get a place at a top university in the UK, even if he stays here in Bangkok. But I have a nagging doubt that we're limiting his chances, and should move back to the UK, so that he has a better chance of getting into one of the better universities.

I'd appreciate very much any comments, do kids from an ordinary international school here in Bangkok have just as much chance as an applicant from a state school in the UK?

Thanks all.

The average "international school" here is of very poor quality, IMO only the top 4-6 would have a decent reputation in overseas uni admissions offices, and only the very top students from those schools get into excellent UK/US schools.

But "good" is different from "excellent", and if your kid is a hard worker and you make sure his CV is well-rounded as well as showing outstanding academic results he'll most likely be fine.

But the quality of his education as well as his uni chances are IMO better from over there.

Many thanks for your comments and they sort of reinforce my thoughts, but now what to do?!!!
