AngloINFO Bangkok Update

Monday 17th March 2008

Time Out!

Public holiday, bank holiday, call it what you will, days off and long weekends such as the Songkran break coming up early next month can be a beacon on a worker's annual calendar. Thailand has a generous fifteen official national holidays over the course of a year.

What's open, what's not

In addition to the national holidays, there are other festivals where work may come to a standstill; for example Chinese New Year celebrated early each year, and Loy Kratong celebrated in the twelfth lunar month, around November.

In Thailand, as in some other countries (notably the UK), when a public holidays falls on a weekend it is generally replaced by a day off the following Monday.

And if you want to make the most of the coming breaks, find out about special events in the region by browsing the What's On Guide.

What else?
