Local Administration

Many government departments have information relevant for foreigners living in Bangkok and Thailand. Websites are often in English and further information can be found by telephoning the relevant department. An English speaking person will often be available.

Here find the contact information for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and its Khets, the Immigration Bureau, the Department of Land Transportation (DLT) and offices of Employment and Finance.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) provides many local services for the 50 districts (khet) of Bangkok. Public hospitals, health, education, sewage, sports and tourism are all part of the BMA's remit.

ID cards,  House Registration Documents (Tabien Baan) and marriage certificates are issued in each of the 50 district offices. Some of these have been upgraded to be a "One Stop Service" centre to provide a more efficient service in a pleasant environment.

Immigration Bureau

The Immigration Bureau is the main centre for all visa enquiries. It can be difficult to reach the relevant person by telephone. See the English language website for specific details and visit the office in person.

Department of Land Transportation (DLT) 

The Department of Land Transportation (DLT) is responsible for issuing driving licenses, car registration documents and annual vehicle taxes amongst other things.
